Throne and Liberty: Balancing Monetization and Game Quality

NCSoft Addresses Pay-to-Win Concerns and Hints at Battle Passes

Throne and Liberty, the highly anticipated MMORPG from NCSoft, aims to strike a balance between monetization and game quality. The company confirmed during a Q&A session in their Q2 2022 earnings report that the game will avoid excessive pay-to-win (P2W) elements. NCSoft also hinted at the inclusion of a Battle Pass, a popular monetization model in North America and Europe, to achieve great results in the global market.

Despite this reassurance, some players have expressed concerns regarding P2W elements in NCSoft's previous games. However, there is hope that Throne and Liberty will follow a similar path as Guild Wars 2, which is not P2W.

Speculations on Throne and Liberty's Cash Shop

While the company has addressed P2W concerns, the extent of monetization in Throne and Liberty remains unclear. Some players speculate that the game will feature a gear progression system similar to Lineage 1 and 2, with the potential for enhancing materials and boosts to be available in the cash shop.

NCSoft mentioned during the Q&A session that the partial payment model is being accepted, with in-game items like Battle Passes becoming more prevalent. This suggests that the cash shop in Throne and Liberty could include cosmetics, Battle Passes, and other non-P2W items. However, until more concrete information is available, it is difficult to predict the exact nature of the cash shop and the game's monetization strategy.

Looking Forward

As Throne and Liberty's expected release in the first half of 2023 approaches, more information about its monetization model will likely become available. For now, fans can remain cautiously optimistic that the game will avoid excessive P2W elements while still delivering a high-quality gaming experience.
