DokeV's Massive World & Multiplayer Secrets Revealed!

After capturing the attention of fans during Gamescom's Opening Night Live with its enchanting yet eerily realistic visuals, DokeV stirred up curiosity regarding its MMORPG status. In a series of interviews with IGN, DokeV's Lead Producer Sangyoung Kim shed light on how Pearl Abyss's vision for the game has evolved.

Pearl Abyss has a notable history of creating MMOs, such as Black Desert, available on PC, consoles, and mobile platforms, as well as owning CCP Games, the creators of EVE Online. It came as a surprise when the company stopped referring to DokeV as an MMO after initially promoting it as one. Kim explained in the interview that the new direction allows the development team to “express [their] vision for the game.”

He shared that numerous discussions took place during DokeV's development, which led the team to conclude that an open-world action-adventure game would best represent their vision. This shift in direction now focuses on providing players with diverse gameplay experiences within a vast open world.

Regarding multiplayer aspects in DokeV, Kim revealed that the game will incorporate both single-player and multiplayer content. Players can look forward to joining forces with friends to defeat powerful bosses or participate in Player vs. Player (PvP) combat. However, Kim did not delve into the specifics of these features.

Furthermore, Kim divulged that the trailer only unveiled a small fraction of the expansive island players will explore in DokeV. He estimated that the town and landscapes displayed in the trailer account for about 10% of the game's total play area. Kim mentioned that the video showcased two towns, including White Whale Town, indicating a massive open world for players to discover.

"I'm not sure how to express the island's magnitude, but you can think of it like this: the parts of town you've seen in the trailer are less than 10% of the actual island. The map is large enough to keep you entertained just by walking around and exploring the open world," Kim said.

Kim's interview with IGN provided gamers with a glimpse into the ambitious and captivating world of DokeV. The game's enormous scale, coupled with its unique blend of single-player and multiplayer content, is likely to offer players countless hours of engaging gameplay. The excitement surrounding DokeV continues to grow as fans eagerly await more information on its release and gameplay features.
